Acccomplishments 1996-1997

  • As a result of the Council's initiative and recommendation, the University administration chose to close the University on January 2, 1998.
  • The Council developed a Home Page on the Internet.
  • For the first time, the Council was represented in the ISU Homecoming Parade.
  • The Council began revision of our Constitution and Bylaws in order to be consistent with our new governing board.
  • Through the Council's initiative, a significant contribution of gifts was donated to the WJBC Brotherhood Tree for needy families in McLean County.
  • In order to keep the lines of communication open between Civil Service and AP staff, the Council began sending Council minutes to members of the AP Council.
  • Advance tickets to the Clay Walker/James Bonamy/Emilio show were secured by the Council and made available to Civil Service employees.
  • Thirty-four people went on the Council sponsored shopping trip to Circle Center Mall in Indianapolis on November 23.
  • Approximately 75 children attended the Children's Christmas party on December 12.
  • The Civil Service Council was represented on planning committees for the Veterans Day ceremony held on November 11, and at the Employee Recognition on ceremony on April 29.
  • The Council awarded Foundation scholarships to Elizabeth Kolodzieski, daughter of Ray Kolodzieski, and to Sara Maupin, daughter of Bob Maupin. One Council-sponsored scholarship was awarded to Ron Bass, son of Connie Bass.
  • The Council gained representation on the steering committee for Founder's Day.
  • The Council established a Ways and Means committee to address fundraising activities for the scholarship fund.
  • The Council was invited for the first time to attend the Alumni Breakfast in Springfield in May.
  • The Council raised over $400 for the Council Scholarship Fund by selling Fannie Mae candy bars.
  • The Council was given the opportunity to address the Board of Trustees at their September meeting focusing on Council goals, responsibilities, and history and again in March to offer our input to the draft of the new Board regulations.
