Acccomplishments 1997-1998

  • As a result of the Council’s initiative and recommendation, Civil Service retirees were included in the April 27 retiree recognition dinner hosted by President Strand.
  • The Council raised over $1500 for the Civil Service Scholarship Fund by holding a fall and spring raffle.
  • The Council was represented in the ISU Homecoming parade.
  • For a second year the Council assisted WJBC Brotherhood Tree in its efforts to collect Christmas gifts for distribution in McLean County.
  • Approximately 115 children attended the children’s Christmas party on December 6.
  • Sixty-nine people went on the council sponsored shopping trip to St. Louis Center on November 15.
  • The Council awarded Foundation Scholarships to Angela Atkins, daughter of Susan Atkins (Facilities Management) and Jarrod Hammons, son of Jani Hammons (Admissions) and one Council-sponsored scholarship to Aaron Pierce, son of Linda Pierce (Human Resources)
  • The Civil Service Council was represented on the following University Committees: Foundation Board, President’s Search Committee, Provost’s Search Committee, Director of Human Resources Search Committee, Policy and Procedures Committee, the Academic Senate’s Committee on Shared Governance, the President’s select Committee on Shared Governance, Founders Day Steering Committee, Veterans Day Recognition Ceremony Planning Committee, Athletic Department Priority Seating Task Force, and Team Excellence Award Committee.
  • Council representatives were again invited to attend the Alumni breakfast in Springfield in May.
  • The Council was invited to participate in interview sessions with candidates for the Provost and the Assistant to the President for Diversity and Affirmation Action.
  • The Council was invited to meet with and provide input to the presidential search consultant.
  • The Council voted to name the Council-sponsored scholarship in honor of Flora Pennel Dodge who was employed at the University from 1890 to 1941. (51 years)
