Acccomplishments 2002-2003

  1. President Boschini responded to a list of questions gathered by the Council from constituents.
  2. VP Steve Bragg on the new combined head of Human Resources and Academic Personnel, December 23, and our Social Security number memo.
  3. Beckie Brenner on the Family Campaign
  4. Wayne Ericson on the USA Patriot Act Committee
  5. Laura Knoblauch on the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA)
  6. Joe Rives on the progress of Educating Illinois (3 visits)
  7. Jan Shane, Paul Borg, and Joe Rives on the North Central Association (NCA) Accreditation process.
  8. Mark Troester on the Freshman Portal and the planned expansion to include faculty and staff.
  9. Julie Jensen on layoffs and bumping.

Events/Awards/Achievements:

  1. Participated in the Homecoming Parade.
  2. Held a CS lunch on Milner Plaza.
  3. Awarded 4 scholarships to children and grandchildren of Civil Service Staff.
  4. Awarded the first ever Carl Johansen scholarship.  This scholarship was endowed by former Provost Al Goldfarb and his wife Elaine.  It is named for her father.  The scholarship is awarded to a CS staff member who is seriously working on a degree.
  5. At the request of the Board of Trustees (BOT), the chair of the Civil Service Council presented a history of the Council and its responsibilities and activities at the May BOT meeting.
  6. A campus-wide Social Security Numbers Committee was formed by VP Steve Bragg as a result of the Council's memo.
  7. Awarded 4 Distinguished Service Awards and an Esprit de Corps recipient.
  8. Held a candle fundraiser.
  9. The Council was asked to provide feedback on the proposed Domestic Partners Resolution.  The Council voted to support it.
  10. Sponsored a shopping trip to Coral Ridge Mall (quad cities) and the Amana Colonies.
  11. Chair attended Council of Councils statewide meeting
  12. Added our voice to those suggesting that the University close on December 23.
  13. Reduced expenses by sending Minutes only to departments and those specifically requesting a paper copy.  Most employees receive it on-line.
  14. New editor completely redesigned the OpenLine.
  15. Established parallel addresses for the Council web site (www.cscouncil.ilstu.edu) and the email address that reaches the current Council officers (cscouncil@ilstu.edu).  The email address was established to give constituents a confidential way to ask questions and ask for help.
  16. The Council was asked to submit comments concerning the proposed Consensual Relations Policy and did so.
  17. Holiday Party starring the Gamma Phi Circus was held for children and grandchildren of all Civil Service Employees.
  18. Sent a memo to Bob Nuckolls, director of Parking Services, asking him to investigate some complaints from motorcycle riders.  The matter was settled to the satisfaction of all concerned.
  19. Participated in WJBC Brotherhood Tree.
  20. Purchased a laptop to assist the secretary.
  21. Helped HR pay for the Employee Advisory Committee (EAC) meeting arrangements.
