Acccomplishments 2007-2008

Events/Awards/Achievements:

  1. 1. Awarded 7 scholarships totaling $5,500 to dependents of Civil Service Staff. Scholarship recipients and their parents were recognized at the Faculty Staff Appreciation Luncheon.
  2. 2. Awarded the 6th annual Carl Johansen Scholarship award to a Civil Service staff member who is seriously pursuing a degree, and an additional scholarship to a second staff member.
  3. 3. Held a Fall Picnic on Milner Plaza.
  4. 4. Participated in the Homecoming Parade during ISU’s 150th Anniversary Celebration.
  5. 5. CS Council members were introduced at the Homecoming Week Faculty/Staff Appreciation Luncheon.
  6. 6. Sponsored a shopping/museum trip to downtown Chicago (WaterTower Place, Museums) with 80 participants.
  7. 7. Holiday Party starring the Gamma Phi Circus was held for children and grandchildren of all ISU Employees. Co-sponsored by the AP Council. Held in the main gym at Horton Fieldhouse, with expanded culturally inclusive elements and .
  8. 8. Chair and Vice-Chair attended Council of Councils statewide meeting.
  9. 9. Sponsored Chicago Cubs trip with 6buses and over 290 participants.
  10. 10. Participated in the WJBC Brotherhood Tree, collecting over 215 gifts.
  11. 11. Brought attention to electronic communication challenges faced by staff whose duties don’t include daily computer usage.
  12. 12. Held a raffle to earn money for additional scholarships.
  13. 13. Council invited to dinner at President & Mrs. Bowman’s house at beginning of academic year.
  14. 14. Council continued to have a mailbox within the Academic Senate office, and 2.5 hours of secretarial help a week.
  15. 15. Sponsored two Monical’s Community Nights which raised over $250 for operating expenses and scholarships.
  16. 16. ISUAA (Annuitant’s Association) representative continued regular participation at CSC meetings.
  17. 17. Continued sending Welcome Letters to new CS employees at ISU.
  18. 18. Chair and several CS staff participated as Bell Ringers during Founder’s Day events.
  19. 19. Awarded 7 Distinguished Service Awards to CS staff.
  20. 20. Staff winners of Distinguished Service Awards were recognized at the Founder’s Day celebration, in conjunction with awards for outstanding faculty.
  21. 21. Chair participated in Educating Illinois Task Force. Council provided input and review of the document, and endorsed Educating Illinois 2008-2014, Priorities for Illinois’ First Public University.
  22. 22. Articles on campus safety topics, written by ISU Police Officers, were included regularly in the OpenLine.
  23. 23. Chair and Council members participated in interview sessions with Vice President for Academic Affairs/Provost candidates.
  24. 24. Council recommended CS staff to President Bowman and Provost Presley for consideration as members of search committees for Dean of College of Applied Science and Technology and Dean of College of Business.
  25. 25. Reviewed CSC Bylaws on standard 3-year cycle.
