Acccomplishments 2008-2009

Events/Awards/Achievements:

  1. 1. Awarded 7 scholarships totaling $8,500 to dependents of Civil Service Staff. Scholarship recipients and their parents were recognized at the Faculty Staff Appreciation Luncheon.
  2. 2. Awarded the 6th annual Carl Johansen Scholarship award to a Civil Service staff member who is seriously pursuing a degree, and an additional scholarship to a second staff member, combined total of $1000.
  3. 3. Held a Fall Picnic on Milner Plaza.
  4. 4. Participated in the Homecoming Parade.
  5. 5. CS Council members were introduced at the Homecoming Week Faculty/Staff Appreciation Luncheon.
  6. 6. Sponsored a fall shopping trip to Gurnee Mills, Illinois.
  7. 7. Holiday Party starring the Gamma Phi Circus was held for children and grandchildren of all ISU Employees. Co-sponsored by the AP Council. Held in the main gym at Horton Fieldhouse, with over 850 RSVP’s.
  8. 8. Chair participated in Council of Councils statewide discussion via email.
  9. 9. Sponsored Chicago Cubs trip with 5 buses and over 290 participants.
  10. 10. Participated in the WJBC Brotherhood Tree holiday gift collection.
  11. 11. Participated in campus planning to meet electronic communication challenges faced by staff whose duties do not include daily computer usage.
  12. 12. Council invited to dinner at President & Mrs. Bowman’s house at beginning of academic year.
  13. 13. Council continued to have a mailbox within the Academic Senate office, and 2.5 hours of secretarial help a week.
  14. 14. Sponsored a Monical’s Community Day fund-raiser.
  15. 15. ISUAA (Annuitant’s Association) representative continued regular participation at CSC meetings.
  16. 16. Continued sending Welcome Letters to new CS employees at ISU.
  17. 17. Chair served as a Judge for the University Chili Cook-off event.
  18. 18. Awarded 5 Distinguished Service Awards totaling $2,500 to CS staff.
  19. 19. Staff winners of Distinguished Service Awards were recognized at the Founder’s Day celebration, in conjunction with awards for outstanding faculty.
  20. 20. Articles on campus safety topics, written by ISU Police Officers, were included regularly in the OpenLine.
  21. 21. Council recommended CS staff to President Bowman and Provost Everts for consideration as members of search committees for Vice President for Finance & Planning, Dean of Mennonite College of Nursing, Director of Human Resources.
